Manage dataset knowledge

Dataset knowledge adds business context that can help DataFact interpret structured data. It does not change records in the source database.

Availability

The Knowledge Management group is shown only for eligible dataset versions. When the dataset is not bound to an analysis model, its knowledge is editable. When an analysis model is bound, the same knowledge can remain visible but is read-only.

Some newer dataset versions do not show dataset-level knowledge because their knowledge is maintained through an analysis model. Do not infer deletion from a hidden group.

Knowledge areas

Depending on availability, the group contains:

  • Entities: business objects and their analysis hints;
  • Entity Relationships: relationships between existing entities;
  • Business Knowledge: rules or context, optionally associated with entities;
  • General Knowledge: one editable body of general context; and
  • Optimization Examples: example questions and query guidance used for optimization.

Work safely

  1. Open the dataset and expand Knowledge Management.
  2. Check whether the group is marked In Use or Read-only.
  3. Open the relevant knowledge area.
  4. Create, edit, or delete content only when controls are available.
  5. Confirm success feedback before leaving the page.

Deleting an entity can invalidate relationships that refer to it. Some records can also reject deletion when they are referenced elsewhere. Read the error message and remove or update the dependency before retrying.

Read-only recovery

If knowledge is read-only because an analysis model is bound, do not expect editing controls to work. Either maintain knowledge in the bound model or, if appropriate and permitted, unbind the model to return an eligible dataset to editable dataset knowledge.
